 General Description
Joseph’s Estate Wines is a family-owned and family-run winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake with a tradition of quality and excellence. We opened our doors in 1996, but our history began long before that.
Dr. Joseph Pohorly was one of the first winery owners in Niagara. He founded Newark Winery in the Village of Virgil in 1979, one of the three original cottage wineries that opened in Niagara in the ‘70s and laid the foundation for the growth of the new Ontario wine industry. Joseph himself was no stranger to wines. Born in Vineland, Ontario, he began life as a farmer’s son and learned how to grow grapes and other fruit crops from an early age, gaining an appreciation and knowledge of the land, of our geography and climate, and of the unique characteristics that make this viticultural area special.

Winery Tours
Public Tours
From June to October, we offer complimentary tours daily at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Our tours are interesting, informative, entertaining and fun. They offer a fascinating look at the history and geography of Niagara viticulture, the science of grape growing and the art of winemaking.
After your tour, we invite you to browse our wine boutique and sample our VQA wines.
Reservations are required for all pre-arranged tours. Please book in advance as weekends are in extreme demand.
Private Tours
Private tours are one hour in length and include a visit to the vineyard, a guided tour of our vineyard cellars followed by wine sampling.

Winery Shop
Our winery is open daily (except Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, Good Friday and Easter Sunday), to welcome you. We’re conveniently located on Highway 55, near the corner of East-West Line, between the Village of Virgil and the Old Towne of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Directions
FROM TORONTO:
1. Take the QEW in the direction of Hamilton/Niagara Falls.
2. After the St. Catharines Skyway, take the second exit (38B - Niagara Stone Road or Regional Road 55).
3. Cross over the highway, follow to the end of the street and turn right on York Road.
4. Stay on York Road to Concession 6 and turn left.
5. Follow Concession 6 to Regional Road 55 and turn right.
6. Continue on Regional Road 55 through the village of Virgil.
7. The winery is on the right hand side just before the set of traffic lights at East and West Line Road.
FROM NIAGARA FALLS OR BUFFALO:
1. Take the QEW in the direction of Toronto.
2. Exit at Glendale Avenue.
3. Turn right and at stop light turn right again on York Road. 4. Stay on York Road to Concession 6 and turn left.
5. Follow Concession 6 to Regional Road 55 and turn right.
6. Continue on Regional Road 55 through the village of Virgil.
7. The winery is on the right hand side just before the set of traffic lights at East and West Line Road.
